Apartment 1604

POWAI, MUMBAI  | Residential Interiors | Approximate Area : 3200sq.ft | Completed | 2022

Apartment 1604 is a cozy city home inspired by the client’s love for modern design, earthy material, vivid color and simple functionality. The two levelled layout opened up an originally constrained 4 bedroom apartment into an expansive yet cohesive 3 bedroom + study home. The home uses subtle gestures to conceal functional space planning within its design language. The primary materials used were represented in their true form to create a neutral base, which would seamlessly bind additions they made to it over the years. The floor served as the largest canvas with Italian marble as the primary flooring, and added wooden borders, cement tiles, and inlay patterns in brass sprinkled in some texture. The biggest challenge was giving meaning to the long passage between the bedrooms and the living area, in a way that would make it more functional. The spaces were tied together with a floating bar on the den screen. This became the spine of the home in the form of a wood and glass screen, below a subtle yet striking waffle-grid ceiling that holds one’s attention and effortlessly navigates them through the space. The home incorporates individual personalities across spaces to ensure a new surprise in every room but one thing is certain—the home truly does have something for everyone.
